Gnutella on the Machttp://www.gnutella.com/ As described in the introduction, Gnutella arose from Napster's ashes as a de-centralized network. The goal was to create a network that was unable to be shut down easily. While originally a "2nd Generation" network, there have been many advances in the Gnutella network which added features and capabilities similar to the current "modern" networks... but many still feel that the results aren't as good as the newer networks. Part of the difficulty is the large number of clients available for Gnutella... and the difficulty in implementing new features across all those clients.
