Fasttrack (Kazaa) on the Mac

http://www.kazaa.com/

As described in the history, the Fasttrack network (under the Kazaa client) is the most popular P2P network at this time. Millions of PC users use this client and network.

As a result, a significant number of files are available on this network. The flip side to this popularity is that users of this network are likely the primary target of the legal actions from the recording industry.

The Fasttrack network remained a PC-only network for some time, due to the encryption of the protocol by the owners. The reason behind encrypting the network was likely to retain control of the network.

Recently two unauthorized applications have gained access to the Fasttrack network by reverse engineering the encryption used. As a result, Mac users can now access the same network as users of Kazaa on the PC.

Advantages: Lots of users, lots of files
Disadvantages: Primary target of Legal Action
